Billed as ‘A Musical Theatre Concert full of your favourite show songs’ this concert had no less than 41 numbers , from ‘Beauty & the Beast’ to ‘Les Miserable’ and most of those you can think of in between!
This certainly gave every opportunity to showcase the 33 youngsters and provided a challenge to the Director Holly Fields, Musical Director James Geary, vocal coach Becky Fearnley, choreographers Chloe Turner and Holly Fields, not to mention the wardrobe team with a number of quick changes to complete. Their hard work in bringing the concert together was obvious and it was easy to forget how young some of the performers were, in handling some of the more demanding music.
It would be impossible to mention everyone, but some of the brightest numbers in Part 1 included; Sophie Mason’s ‘As long as he needs me’ from Oliver, Phoebe Hall singing ‘Someone like you’ from Jekyll & Hyde and the younger girls singing ‘Hard Knock Life' from Annie.
Part 2 opened with two great numbers from Matilda the Musical and some good performances too from Joss Fisher and Elizabeth Pugh singing ‘Marry the Man Today’ (Guys & Dolls), Ellen Fearnley with ‘Getting to know you’ (King & I), Callie Geary and Jess Lewis’ ‘I know him so well’ (Chess), and the solo numbers from Les Miserable featuring Freya Payne, Summer Geary, Elizabeth Pugh and Jack Brown.
Following the performance a number of ‘Lollipop awards’ were presented to those whose confidence had grown perhaps more than most, which in many ways is a glowing reminder of the general ethos of this group, in giving all the opportunity to shine as they grow with experience.
