John Godber wrote ‘Lucky Sods’ back in the 90’s but much of what transpires can be attributed to today. The play centres around a typical working class couple Morris (Arran Raw) and wife Jean (Sally Ibbertson) whose quite mundane life changes quite quickly after a large lottery win. What should be a great opportunity for the couple has the opposite effect. Cracks in their marriage widen and their relationship with Jean’s sister Annie (Sue Baker) and husband Norman (Ian Hatton) become resentful. Having a big lottery win is life changing and for some not for the better. In this case the couple drifted apart with Morris losing his mother Molly (Ruthie Millett) taking up briefly with an old flame Connie (Laura Stothard). Overall everyone played their parts well including the Waiter/Vicar played by newcomer (RhysSargent). The sets worked OK and I do appreciate the limited space that is available but the scene changes were a little slow and for the audience I felt concentration was lost. Needles to say the audience enjoyed the evening and I would like to thank the group for the kind invitation.
