It's quite a few years since I last had the pleasure of seeing a Langtoft Players' production. This Raymobnd Hopkins' farce had a truly hilarious plot with numerous twists and turns right up to the final moments. All the members of the cast seemed very suited to their parts. The central character was Clive Debanks ,played by the director, Brian Branch, who was shortly to celebrate his fiftieth birthday. Anne Fenton, was Clive's authoritarian wife Anita. Her friend,Claire [Kerry Pirie] was found to be remarkably tactless. She was also very attracted to Jack Reynolds [a friend of Clive's] played by Richard Gregg. Carole Walker played a blinder as an elderly purveyor of vitamin pills and Val Gregg played the rather glamorous Emily Roberts. The set, of Clive and Anita's sitting room was fine. The costumes were well chosen and so was the lighting. Unfortunately not all of the sound effects were on time. Admittedly, the audience found these mistakes very amusing, and it was the same over the number of prompts that were needed along with quite a lot of asides. I appreciate that most of the audience laughed uproarously...but sadly it was not always for the right reason. More rehearsal time would have been good. However, the cast continued manfully and for that I congratulate them.
