Lost In Music

18.10.24

What an exciting welcoming atmosphere met me on arrival at the Civic Hall Ellesmere Port. The foyer was full of excited anticipation, lots of photographs being taken of attendees, many in all manner and era of fancy dress, not surprisingly as this was Ellesmere Port Musical Theatre Company’s production of ‘Lost in Music’. As the programme advised us all to sit back rewind to the 60’s 70’s 80’ so, I thought why not!! Lights down, curtain opens, the unmistakeable first bars of ‘Wipe Out’ ring out the 60’s had begun.

The concert was a vibrant celebration of the best music from the '60s, '70s, and '80s, brought to life by an exceptionally talented ensemble of 21 singers and dancers. From the very first note, the energy was electric, and the audience was swept into a nostalgic journey through the decades. Each performer captured the spirit of these legendary eras, delivering powerful vocals that had everyone clapping and singing along. Classics from Motown to rock and disco came alive, and it was clear that everyone on stage poured their hearts into every song. Standout moments included soulful ballads that tugged at the heartstrings and energetic dance numbers that turned the whole venue into one big party. One big thank you Amy Clarke, Amy Dainty, Carla Dymond, Mel Hughes, Laura Jones, Aiden King, Sue Mears, Megan Pritchard, Logan Quin, Elenka Bennion, Freya Brabazon, Gia Broomfield, Sophia Cole, Vicky Earl, Sue Hickman, Harry Lilley, Lauren Mason, Imogen McNeill, Gill Watson, Rosie Young and of course E.P.M.T.C Chairman Pam Watson. I have to mention a few highlights for me, Aiden King (Do you Love Me. Wake me up before you Go Go) Gill Watson ( Son of a Preacher Man) Harry Lilley (Carless Whisper)  Amy Clarke (Boots) Mel Hughes (I will Follow Him. Young Hearts Run Free)  Chris Pacitti celebrated the Bee Gees, (Night Fever. You should be Dancing. Stayin Alive) you were all amazing.

Liz Legerton did a magnificent job on this show, being Director/Musical Director is so demanding, but you pulled it off congratulations. The choreography was flawless, thanks to the multi-talented Rob Stevens, the cast capturing the essence of each era with style and boundless enthusiasm. Costumes were well chosen, adding authenticity and colour to the whole experience. Every song selection visually displayed (backdrop projection) felt carefully chosen, bringing back memories for long-time fans and introducing younger members of the audience to timeless hits. The inclusion of a projected history snapshot of events after each era was genius and so moving. Very clever.

In all, this was more than a concert, it was a joyous celebration of music that transcends generations. What a show, it’s rare to see such passion, enthusiasm and talent all in one place. Absolutely unforgettable!

Thank you for inviting me, it was lovely to see Pam Watson on stage, and singing ‘Monday Monday’ a personal favourite. What a wonderful evening of live theatre, looking forward to the next one.
