~~I have to admit to never having seen this show before so I did not know what to expect, I also have to confess that after seeing the show I could not sing you any of the songs in it but this has nothing to do with the performance by the RTSA students as they did a magnificent job of putting the show over.
From the start this was a very high energy show which was bursting at the seams with excitement and full on dancing as well as some excellent harmonious singing at the same time. I will never know how they manage to carry this off, singing at the same time as doing the very energetic dance moves but they did and still came up smiling at the end.
As I have mentioned there was some really good singing from the full cast and this also was the same from the principals of the show, the leading couple of this piece Michael Dork and Holly Manson were played with ease by Brad Leeks and Aimee Good respectively. Not only are these two very good looking they are also able to act, sing and dance their way through all the numbers presented to them with ease.
There were also some very good performances from their co-stars in this show, namely Josh Roberts as Eddie Arch who turns out to be the villain in this show, Josh was another who was able to carry off all that was asked of him with true professionalism. Also in on the plot, which in case anyone doesn’t know is all about the very first email, is Beth Atkin and Adam Smith as Leia Dawkins and Lucas Lloyd, again these two added to the enjoyment of this show with their performances.
There were no weak links in this show even in the numerous smaller parts which were too numerous to mention them all by name but I must mention two of them, Ivanka played by Charlotte Hucknall and Marina played by Emily Wallbank. As their names may suggest these two characters were Swedish and both Charlotte and Emily were able to keep up their accents which is no mean feat when all around their fellow actors are speaking in, and I have to say very good, American accents.
The singing, dancing and acting in this piece was second to none and was the latest in a line of productions from this company to show off their full talents, this show is set in the 70s and as such was able to capture the exact type of music which was about at that time, the music to me had a raw feel to it such as we had heard in Hair and worked perfectly both from the pit and from the performers on stage
Congratulations to all involved.
