It must be difficult to find shows for youth groups that perfectly suit the age range, Loserville is a great choice!
This musical which was on in the West End in 2012 tells the story of a group of teenagers who are trying to beat a company to send the first email. Will the geeks overcome the odds and beat the company and the most popular boy at school at the same time? Can geeks really be heroes, of course they can! With songs written by a former member of the band Busted this is an upbeat show with a message running through its heart and some great company numbers.
All of the principals immerse themselves in the characters and perform with panache. Josh Hale as the wannabe sci-fi writer Lucas (cue lots of slightly dodgy Star Wars references) perfectly shows the smart but human side of his character, and his dancing is spot on. Ellie Moloney played Holly with charm and feeling. The whole company had energy and enthusiasm, especially during the big company numbers that were expertly choreographed and executed.
With a simple but effective set making use of the great projection facilities at The Albany (that would be even better on a fixed screen rather than a curtain) and colourful 70’s costumes, this musical was a feast for the eyes and ears.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable show with some very talented children and a great production team.
