Rugby Theatre's latest production was Little Shop of Horrors the musical telling the tale of Seymour who has found himself a man eating plant , his popularity rising and his love for Audrey never fading.
The show opens with Crystal (Nelle Cross), Chiffon (Chloe McDonald) and Ronnette (Hannah Morgan – Brown) who appeared together throughout the show narrating you through parts of the story. They had excellent singing voices and always in good harmony.
Mushnik played by Darren Pratt effectively portrayed excellent characteristics and vocal ability. It was an enjoyable performance to watch all the way through. Orin was played by Tim Sell and he was fantastically mad. His ability to play an over the top crazed dentist never faulted and he did one of the best versions of “Dentist” that I have ever seen.
Smaller roles of Customer (Tom Cowan) and Wino (Leila Saidi) were again played well.
Seymour played by Sam Henshaw and Audrey played by Louise Woodward were perfectly cast and handled the musical numbers, choreography and comedy elements with ease and captured the parts as you would expect.
Audrey II was voiced by Will Neale and manipulated by Rob Healey. Both were excellently done. Will was appropriately comic and menacing as the voice.
Everyone involved on stage were excellent in the singing ability and harmonies together with the brilliant choreography on a small stage.
The set was appropriate, the plant grew in its magnificence and worked well. Sound, Lighting, Costume were appropriate to the time period and added to the overall performance.
Overall an excellent performance and not to be missed.
