The annual pantomime this year was a success with many performances being sold out and audience enjoyment at a peak. The whole cast was full of energy, verve and enjoyment with a simple set (designer Margret Wild who was also in charge of the props) and some very artistic and colourful backclothes. The costumes were equally artistic and managed by Brenda Anderson and Kathryn Leigh. The Choreographers (Viv Hall, Beth Metcalfe and Marie Chapman) used the small stage very effectively with a good troupe of young dancers. Light and sound added to the atmosphere and the pre-recorded music worked well. The Principal Girl (Rowena Lloyd) and Principal Boy (Sarah Chisem) worked well together and made a charming pair. The comedy was in the capable hands of the Dame (Andrew Stanley), the Granny (Doreen Driffield), the Woodcutter (Mike Atkinson), with the 3 Little Pigs (Ian Chrisem, Lisa Ramsey and Beth Metcalfe who had taken over the role at very short notice) and Jack & Jill (Alfie Knight & Marie Chapman) adding to the enjoyment. The novel idea of the Fairy being a puppet (with Amanda Martin as the voice and puppeteers Daniel Brown & Brenda Anderson) was especially pleasing for the children in the audience. The Big Bad Wolfe (Kathryn Leigh) with a striking make up, gave a very bravura performance receiving the boos from the audience with great panache. And finally the Chorus of Imogen Sinclair and Emily Knight added their talents to the singing and dancing. A very good job all round.
