Little Grimley’s Strictly Sex Factor (On Ice) was the second of two one‑act plays. I have seen a few of the Little Grimley plays, and this one was just as funny as the others.

Matt Rosser as Bernard was very funny. It is always difficult when you don’t have a great deal of dialogue and have to rely heavily on concentration and timing, but Matt’s timing was very good.

Margaret was played by Liz Pickup. Her diction was clear, and she delivered her lines confidently. The moment she came up with the idea of using the audience in the Little Grimley show was performed very well — her smile told us she’d had a spark of inspiration.

Helen Church has always been very good as Joyce. She excels at delivering a silly line while making the audience believe that Joyce genuinely means every word. The scene with her on roller skates was particularly funny.

Gordon is a big character, and Andy Robinson made him exactly that. His diction was excellent, and his characterisation was strong. I recognised several people I know in amateur theatre in his performance — those determined to gain an audience and put on a show even when everything is going wrong.

Jim Nicolson directed the play simply, and it worked. It gave the characters space to develop, and most of the jokes landed well with the audience.

Thank you to the front‑of‑house team, and thank you also for the fish and chips.
