Despite difficulties with the production team over the year, GAMA Youth still managed to produce a very memorable revue. Staging was excellent with good use of intelligent light and haze to create a very theatrical atmosphere, which showed the youngsters’ talents off to maximum advantage. The simple costuming was most effective. This was a revue which had everything from dance through ensemble work to solos backed by a mixture of piano and backing tracks. The show got off to a great start with a stylish ‘Hooray for Hollywood’ and’ Movies were Movies’ which very much set the scene for the Hollywood Section. ‘Lullaby of Broadway was also an excellent ensemble number. Following on, there was a Seasons Section. I really enjoyed the harmonies in ‘California Dreamin’ and ‘Winter’s Tale.’ The Christmas numbers, complete with snow machine, were a great end to Act I. Act II kicked off with a London Section which captured the London spirit beautifully. Then we moved on to a West End section which was a wonderful potpourri of musical numbers. I really enjoyed ‘Electricity’ performed by Brandon Low. ‘Any Dream Will Do’ worked well as a UV number. The last few numbers brought the show to a suitable climax. A really entertaining show!
