The youth section of Walkerville musical Society put on an enchanting version of the Wizard of Oz musical as a concert, adapted by Joan Fothergill and produced by her and Alan Tomkins. Of course every performer was a star in their loved ones eyes, but their talent was appreciated and enjoyed by everyone in the audience; you couldn’t not appreciate the casts enthusiasm, confidence and sparkle. Outstanding performances included Sophia Archer (Dorothy), Isobel Ross (the scarecrow with a nice comedy touch), William Metcalf (The Tin Man suitably bewildered) and James Archer (a roaring success as the Lion). The costumes were worthy of a full production (well done Christine Hully, Dawn Parrack, Susan Thomas and Caroline Gallon), as were the scenery and props. Lights, sound and accompanist were also worthy of mention as were the many backstage/chaperone and other people who go to making this sort of production both reality and a success. It was a hot night but that only added to the atmosphere when Walkerville temporarily became Kansas. Congratulations to one and all for an entertaining evening’s performance.
