From the moment the orchestra struck up I thought we were in for a good night, and I am pleased to say I wasn’t wrong. This production was something everybody involved should be very proud of.
Everyone on stage gave their all to make this show work with so many outstanding performances from this young and talented cast. Joseph Arnott and Jonny Friesem gave excellent performances as Jean Valjean and Javert, and just the right amount of humour was given by Jason Curia and Megan Gray as the Thenardiers. Rachael Egan, as Fantine, Lauren Fawcett, as Eponine and Hannah Mitchell, as Cosette, portrayed their roles with great sensitivity. Luc Van Der Voet for me gave the performance of the evening as Marius. His characterisation, singing and passion were quite special. The minor roles added depth and variety, and the very enthusiastic chorus provided great support throughout.
Although there is not a great deal of space at this theatre, they used what was available imaginatively with a well thought out set, used to the full. Good costumes added the final touch to this wonderful evening.
Jeremy Harbottle controlled the 16 piece orchestra superbly, giving great support to the performers on stage. Congratulations to Dan Brookes and all the team. Well done.
