The first thing about this performance is that these young people of Sutton Coldfield Musical Youth Theatre Company will not forget the experience of performing this production for a long time to come. But, how do you report on this incredible show. The set was perfect for the Sutton Coldfield Town Hall stage with superb back projection and good side legs with turned into the barricade.
We all know the story of this production and this company did it proud.
Ethan Bowley playing Jean Valjean was brilliant. His voice was superb and wonderful acting, especially when he sang ‘Bring Him Home’. Javert was played by Ethyn James, again wonderful powerful voice and when he sang ‘Stars’ the sell out audience went wild. The three female leads Fantine (Anamae Parkes), Cosette (Neve Mathews) and Eponine (Becky Hanratty) were all well cast and gave us some fantastic singing. Enjolras was in the hands of Ben White, again could not be faulted along with Toby Foetu-Foster as Marius. Comedy came from ‘The Master of the House’ pair of Oscar Ralley as Thenadier and Ella Clarke as Madame Thenadier. They had the audience clapping along to this one. Who can forget Ewan Tall as Gavroche singing ‘Little People’ and Myleigh Davies as Little Cosette performing ‘Castle on a Cloud’.
The vocals of the entire principal cast were outstanding. Very mature. You would think that you were watching an adult society and not a youth section.
The ensemble worked well as a team and when the whole company were on stage it was just wonderful to hear them all singing, especially the finale.
Georgia Young did a great job with this talented cast.
Well done to every single one of you.
