Opening night always gives us a few flutters. No problem with this show, everyone on stage were fully focused and the action flowed along smoothly.

The company was led by the lovely, talented Abby McLean who gave Elle Woods all the vocal range, sass and attitude needed and managed the costume changes expertly. Her two love interests Emmet (Andrew Taylor) and Warner (Oscar O’Brien) were both on top form with strong singing. Andrew portraying a sympathetic slightly nerdy lawyer with charm and Oscar a two timing rich student with gusto. Enter the villain of the piece the sarcastic Callahan given the full treatment by Cameron Watson and Warner’s other love interest Vivienne played with distain and condescension by Maisie Houston. Both handling their musical pieces well. Then we have Elle’s friends and supporters. At Delta Nu is Serena (Bella Little), Margot (Clara Caldwell) and Pilar (Lexie McAllan). This trio led all of the big dance numbers with perfect timing, style and secure vocals. At Harvard we first meet Paulette (Poppy McMahon) who quickly becomes Elle’s support through the troubles ahead. Poppy gave us lots of pleasure with her lovely singing and well expressed emotional highs and lows. Things change when Elle meets Brooke Wyndam (Aimee Cumming) we were treated to a brilliant skipping rope sequence lead by Aimee, who managed to sing and skip at the same time. Mention must go to the other main characters, Yvie McConnachie, James Taylor, Max Kidd, Charlie Hassen, Robbie Nicoll and Seri Tait. Well done to you all for showing great versatility in the different roles you played.

The company were all on top form. I loved the way the cast were utilised on stage giving everyone specific chances within the story. The singing was well rehearsed. The production was secure with appropriate setting and use of scenery and props. The choreography was slick with great use of the cast in the stylised routines. Lighting and sound enhanced everything. Well done to everyone backstage including chaperones. It was very evident the amount of dedication and effort that went into this production from all. I hope the production team enjoy the success of this show, you should all be proud of your achievement. I love seeing youngsters enjoying their hobby. This production was a testament to the success which is Rising Youngstars.
