Legally Blonde is my favourite show so I always love going to see a production of it and see what a new cast bring to this fabulous musical.  A simple and affective set, slick scene changes and colourful costumes really created the ideal atmosphere for this upbeat and energetic story to be told.

Melody Nehme captured the central character of Elle Woods perfectly.  It is a very demanding character role, with lots of stage time, numerous musical numbers, and involvement in the choreography, but Melody handled it effortlessly.  She brought warmth and likability to the character, essential for the audience to connect and follow this story.  Excellent stage presence, comic timing, beautiful vocals and strong dancing gave a well-rounded performance.  And I must admit after seeing this show a lot, Melody had THE BEST bend and snap I have ever seen.

The rest of the cast gave equally strong performances in their own characters with humour and powerful singing from Sean Miller as Warner and Jenny James as Paulette.  Jenny’s “Ireland” was very strong and showcased her comic timing well.  The lead Delta Nu’s; Sophie Lawson (Margot), Kenzii Stevens (Serena) and Eve Harvey (Pilar) worked very well together and boosted the energy in their scenes with their slick vocals and individual character filled choreography.  Other standout performances came from Kirsty Dougall (Brooke) who impressed with her number “Whipped into Shape”, Rory Duncan (Callahan) who commanded the stage exceptionally well, Millie (Vivienne) with excellent vocals in the Remix at the end, Holly Osborne (Enid) with her characterisation and one liners, and Christoper Ralph (Kyle) who could get an award for the best audience reaction.

The stage was full of a large cast, all of whom handled the big, choreographed numbers impressively, with confident vocals and each person acting out their own character in the scenes.  In particular the last three numbers “Legally Blonde - Remix” , “Scene of the Crime” and “Find My Way/Finale” really left the audience wanting more.

The whole production team and team at Harlequin should be commended for working with a large cast number and executing the show so smoothly.
