This was another North West Premiere production for Blackpool from this thriving company and it was a difficult and demanding task for the Production Team, Cast and Orchestra. It was obvious that hours of stressful rehearsals had gone into achieving the finished production and it looked like the cast were enjoying every minute of their time on stage. The excellent Orchestra under Musical Director Jim Thomas achieved a good sound balance. This was a most difficult score for orchestra and cast but they certainly rose to the challenge. Choreography by Aimie Rutherford with Nikita Coulon and Charlotte Holden was first class with very polished and imaginative routines, all physically demanding.

Margot, Sophie Coulon, Pilar, Morgan Meechan and Serena, Nikita Coulon worked so well together with slick movement and excellent harmonies. There were some very polished performances among the principals. Elle Woods, Lisa Beardsall looked great and moved well but at times there was a lack of projection and diction in her performance. Mykey Young as Emmett Forrest showed his obvious experience and had a great rapport with Lisa. Sara Ordonez as  Paulette Buonufonte was outstanding in her role of hairdresser.  She was always in character and showed excellent comic timing. I really enjoyed Amy Atkinson as Brooke Wyndham. This was a splendid physical performance in “ Whipped into Shape” as she fronted a stunning dance routine using skipping ropes. Peter Baldwin as Professor Callahan showed he is not just a good singer in this nicely judged acting performance.

Backstage crew did an outstanding job under the direction of Stage Manager Andrew Crich. All scene changes were smooth and facilitated the fast pace of the show. Costumes appeared to have been well researched and together with good lighting and sound effects helped to make this yet another very enjoyable evening.

Jacqui Mein, Director has ensured this company’s reputation continues to flourish. Thank you for, once again, making my wife and I so welcome.
