What a fun and enjoyable production – a larger cast than normal, I thought the Director and Assistant Director managed the number of actors well, as getting them on, off and grouped on stage in a small venue was a feat for sure, but it all seemed to work well.
I liked the use of double-sided flats, a new venture for sets from TADS, and because of the sheer number of scene changes it was more or less seamless, and a shout out to the backstage crew, who managed to accomplish everything without fuss.
Musically good, although I felt a few of the tracks were a little loud and didn’t always complement the singer, however, everyone gave their all.
I am aware that a decision must have been made not to mic the lib, however I felt that sometimes people speaking at the back of the stage did not perhaps have the necessary projection to be heard well – there was also a lot of speaking to the side walls where couples were facing each other across the stage, which again impaired the way the sound was heard. Just small points, in what was generally a well-managed and great sounding production.
Costumes were suitable for the different characters, although I did not like Elle’s wig, it was too big!
With such a big cast I can’t mention everyone by name, so please don’t feel downcast if I haven’t mentioned ‘you’ – but be assured I noticed and appreciated every single one of you.
That said, I must mention some of the main characters – Faith Kenny (Elle Woods) showed a good understanding of the girl, with plenty of expression and characterisation, well-sung too.
Ryan Holgate-Sutherland (Emmett) created a wholesome and understanding person, singing well and being a good friend to Elle – a very good pairing.
Sophie Robinson (Paulette) made a real impression, nice to see her in a part where she could give rein to her capabilities, nicely achieved. There was some good interaction between Paulette and Elle, I also liked Jordan Allard’s Kyle, and the relationship between him and Paulette.
Josh Stone (Warner) and Leilani Denton (Vivienne) also created a rather obnoxious pairing, I liked what they did with their parts.
The four Delta Nu girls – Hanna Korosi-Feher, Amanda Lawson, Matilda Dowdall and Rosie Williams provided a very inclusive and well-acted quartet, supporting Elle at all times, with some good vocals and edgy asides.
I must commend the girls who participated in the ‘skipping’ routine – it was very well delivered – fast and accurate, well done girls!
All in all a good production, with some lovely portrayals, which made for an enjoyable evening’s entertainment. My thanks to TADS for their continued hospitality – always a good place to be!
