New to Noda East, Katsact Seniors, performed Legally Blonde, The Musical Jr with a cast of 23 students and 2 dogs.

Director Katherine Foxworthy, better known as just Kat’ moved this production on a pace using black drapes to box in the opening Delta Nu Pink House frontage. The working windows operated well, and I was most impressed with how the cast themselves changed scenes. Very slick and well thought out.

Singing was confidently performed but the backing tracks were often far too loud and solo performances were overtaken by the volume of the track. This is something that I am sure your junior technicians will master in time and for the most part mics were brought up on time and there was no feedback. Well done.

Costumes and hair looked good and I particularly liked the pink sparkly jacked that Daisy (Elle) wore at the end.

Gucci as Bruiser and Barney as Rufus who were extremely well behaved and delightful.

Daisy Sarll as Elle Woods was perfect for the role. She looked the part and was definitely an all-rounder with her singing and dancing ability. “Legally Blonde” was sung with feeling and the audience enjoyed it too. Hardly off stage and great characterisation she led the show with ease – fabulous! This young performer is definitely someone to watch out for in the future.

Daisy, matched with Stanley Hayes playing Emmett Forrest, worked well together and made the perfect pair as he helped her recover from her failed relationship with Warner Huntington III played enthusiastically by Sebastian Cook-Allen.

Bonnie Reid gave us just the right amount of stand offishness playing Vivienne Kensington and Millie Smith was expertly cast as Paulette, both put in great performances. Projection and diction were good and characterization excellent.  “Bend and Snap” was one of the highlights of the show.

Jessica Busolini as Brooke Wyndham must be given recognition for skipping while singing and dancing - I was exhausted just watching - great sass!

Gurmehar Kaur did well at playing the role of Callahan but try to slow down your dialogue a little. The audience need to have time to enjoy and understand your character. If you speak too quickly, they will miss a lot of important moments.

Coco Harwood did a great job playing Chutney Wyndham. Characterisation of Chutney was brilliant - her demeanour was great and loved the American drawl - very funny!

Christopher Sherwood played Kyle, a waiter, Grandmaster Chad and a guard and I wanted to particularly mention him as although having small roles he lit up the stage with his energy every time he came on in his different guises, I will remember the Kyle Character for a long time, well done!

Jamilah Ahmed as Dewy was hilarious. Really positive comedy character potential here. Keep working at it, I know you can do it.

This production was a great introduction to Katsact Performing Arts and I know that many of the students have learning difficulties. Did that make a difference? No not at all. The whole cast worked hard and certainly you could see that they were enjoying themselves.

Well done to cast and crew and everyone who made this evening so enjoyable.

I look forward to meeting your junior group tomorrow.

Thank you for your generous hospitality and making my husband and I feel so welcome.
