Firstly to set the scene, must congratulate the design, construction and movement team for their original imagination and total speeding around the stage so that the very many scene changes did not slow down the action. Well costumed. (Some issues with sound to improve in run)
And then to the work put in to create such a slick production with that big cast: excellent harmonies, fast and synchronised movement, certainly Sharon Fox and Samantha Ashby are a superb production team and inspire the best in their cast, and bring out the pink.
Talking about pink: what a lead in Bryony Ding, quite superb in the casting with the voice, style, dance, personality, and the long blonde hair to go with the ‘pink’ of the costumes. As Elle Woods, she had so much to do and how professionally well she did it and interacted with the rest of the cast, and the men in her life.
As the man really in her life, Ross Woodhouse was smooth in style and over-riding all difficulties with great personality and talent, a good duo act to complete the happy ending.
The other men: Anthony Maley as Professor Callahan was everything needed in his role at Harvard, looked good, knew his own mind even in a biased misogynist, took no nonsense, a good portrayal; and to Matt Dack as Warner Huntingdon who just wanted the riches and style without the work but steady, well he deserved to lose Elle, and gain stylish Ashton White as Vivienne for his reward.
What energy and flexibility from Emily Penman-Lee, and the girls all so fit, a really excellent number in the fitness studio. In fact all the team were amazingly fit and flexible and dancing throughout the show as one (lot of rehearsal time shows), most professional chorus and dance troupe, and led by Elle’s friends Margot, Serena, and Pilar
Personality plus with hyper-energy, Jo Sherry as Paulette played the part of her life, this was something special in song and dance and timing. And how well the comedy worked with the appearance of Kyle from Josh Chilvers, certainly a role to relish.
Above all this is a happy show with a chance for so many cameo characters as well as the principles to show the considerable talent well utilised on the Arts Centre stage, the company deserve congratulations on maintaining the high standard and energy levels and fun to give the audience such a great show.
