A virtually full forum and a warm welcome greeted me on arrival at B.O.D.S production of Legally Blonde, a musical I have never previously seen before, and a very entertaining evening it turned out to be.
This production was full of enthusiastic performers, with a good set and two large screens either side of the stage projecting images which worked splendidly. Rachel Craig playing the lead role of ‘Elle’, was excellent both vocally and dramatically, she follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School hoping to win him back. Being an attractive blonde she is not taken seriously by the establishment, some of the other students trick her into wearing a bunny outfit at a party, what a part of play she was hardly ever off stage except for the many quick changes, a gem of a part, wonderfully portrayed. David Stockton did well as the heart warming nice guy ‘Emmett Forrest’ while Ben Merriman was a good ‘Professor Callahan’ who was the villain of the show.
I thought that beautician ‘Paulette’ played by Claire Williams provided several of the highlights of this show, in fact she nearly stole the show, especially in the beauty salon as did the U.P.S guy ‘Kyle’. Andy Hamilton who’s serious demeanour and manly physique, made the most of this cameo part without a word spoken. What can I say about the great performance given by Louise Marshall as ‘Brooke Wyndam’ a fitness instructor and with the dancers gave a slick routine with skipping ropes which was clever and well choreographed, also Aydn Blake did well as ‘Warner Huntington III’.
There were many smaller parts but all essential to the story line, I did like the Delta Nu young ladies, you were all impressive. One of my favourite numbers was ‘Ireland’, at one point I thought you were going to perform Riverdance.
This was a good show, with splendid choreography and an energy and enthusiasm which drew everyone into the action, including Rufus and Bruiser. The costumes were good, as were the sets, well done to the stage crew and also to front of house. The orchestra as always were excellent. Thank you for a lovely evening’s entertainment.
