LEGALLY BLONDE
From the start of the show to the end, this show was full of fantastic performances from all the cast on stage.
The plot of the musical sees blonde sorority queen Elle Woods being dumped by her boyfriend Warner Huntington which made Elle determined to turn things around and get accepted into Harvard to complete a law degree.
Elle Woods played by Holly Neaves played this character with such ease, her comedy timing was exceptional, and her vocals was of the highest standard which had the audience’s full attention. Elle was well supported by her three friends Serena, Margot, and Pilar all played by Racel Ivison, Hannah Scotson and Rebecca Waters with their singing and dancing routines they were a pleasure to watch.
Warner Huntington played by Ben Cassidy was dislikeable and worked very well with Vivienne Kensington played by Alice Woodsworth who seemed to look down on Elle and give her a hard time at every opportunity she could but then towards the end the audience really warmed to her. This was a very good partnership that sang and acted so well.
Emmett Forrest played by Joe Desborough a very talented actor had wonderful vocals, and the audience could see he had a great rapport with Elle.
Wonderful to watch was Paulette Buonufonte played by Poppy Rowan sang incredibly well and with a great sense of comic timing especially with Kyle the delivery driver played by Charlie Raine had us all in fits of laughter.
I must mention Brooke Wyndham played by Heather Hood the keep fit fanatic sang a song whilst skipping with ropes and never dropped a note, this had me wanting to gasp for a breath of air so well done.
Professor Callahan played by Micheal Spencer gave a good performance of this character and was rightly booed by the audience for what he did to Elle.
I could easily get carried away mentioning everybody on stage as the full ensemble was so good and everyone of you must be so proud of your performances which was rewarded with a standing ovation from the audience.
Musical Director Jonathan Millican had assembled a very talented band and due to the lack of space at the theatre the band was above the actors which is hard for all actors not being able to see their cues, but you could see how much rehearsal time had gone into this to get it right. If you did not know there was a band playing you could easily think the cast were singing to backing tracks so well-done Jonathan, you were all exceptional.
Choreographers Alex Carruthers and Holly Neaves (elle woods) done a fantastic job with a big cast on a small stage, lots of movement, passion and smiling from the cast it looked great on stage.
Now to the Directors, Lexie Ward, Heather Hood (brooke Wyndham) and Joe Desborough (Emmett forrest) you must be so proud of what you delivered to the stage at your theatre, the show was well directed and kept up a good pace throughout the show. I was taking backstage after the show, and I could not believe the smallest of areas for the cast to change and get on stage but you all nailed it.
Last of all the lighting and sound done by Sean Reynolds was very good but apart from having a busy schedule with the lights and sound I also observed Sean helping front of house, then I saw him serving on the bar in the interval and at the end of the show. Every society needs people like this, and I was told how important he is to the group so a huge thank you from the group Sean and hopefully this shows how much you mean to everybody at the Carlisle Green Room.
Well done to everybody a good show put on by a talented Group.
