MTS performed the hit stage musical Legally Blonde.
The story of Elle Woods as she follows ex-boyfriend Warner to law school to win back his heart.
A reasonably large cast with both small and large roles for everyone to sink their teeth into. The core principle cast consisted of Tony Boucher who plays Warner and although he showed some first night nerves did a good job in the role. Sam Asbury plays the role of Emmett very well and had a strong chemistry with Elle.
The Greek Chorus consisted of Lydia Wardingham as Margot, Amelia Ault as Serena and Freja Brabazon as Piller who all did a great job and worked well together. The smaller roles of Jade as Vivienne, Erin as Enid were well played and showed the necessary characteristics in their portrayal.
Nathan Walsh as Nikos was highly amusing and gave an enjoyable performance.
Richard Yates as Callahan and Libby as Paulette continue to show diversity on stage in these roles and had some fabulous vocals.
Sarah Painter as Brooke pulled off an impressive route of “Whipped into Shape” and overall a great performance.
Becky Orton played the lead role as Elle, which is a very demanding and challenging role, but she made it look effortless. I could not fault the performance, it was very enjoyable to watch.
There are lots of small, chorus roles in the performance and was good to see new faces having the confidence to take on roles where they have not previously. Overall an enjoyable performance by the chorus and they were able to perform some fabulous choreography.
MTS continue to try new things and although the projection did not always work in some areas, it did add a nice effect and credit must go to the imaginative use of the “Dog”
It was evident that time and effort was put into the show, with the chorus providing a lot of support to the principal cast and the little touches added in really shining through.
However this performance did suffer a bit with sound issues and sometimes the band were a bit loud making it hard to hear all the vocals.
Overall, this was an enjoyable and entertaining performance.
