This hilarious play for four actors based on the original plays by David Tristram had the audience in fits of laughter from the very beginning to the very end. In fact if anyone in the audience read the programme before the play opened they would have laughed out loud, as I did, at its humorous content. According to the programme notes Margaret, (Elizabeth Karban) has delusions of grandeur and has sent her CV to Birmingham Hippodrome to apply for the role of Roxy Hart in Chicago. Joyce (Jan Brennan ) the Treasurer, tells us that the WI are doing a sponsored sky dive to appeal to younger members and Gordon (Lewis Doley) the Society Chairman offered to donate several silk shirts to help with the construction of the parachute. His latest attempt at writing a play “Brief Encounters of the Third Kind” sent by email to the three afore mentioned players, was a waste of time as he is the only one with a computer! As they are having difficulty selling tickets Gordon stated that the only thing to bring in larger audiences is SEX. Bernard agreed with that and would he be able to see Margarets boobs? The play continued “laugh out loud” dialogue to the end. The four actors were brilliant and sets and lighting and the whole evening was a delight. Oh yes, I forgot to mention that we had a fish and chips supper at the end of the first act.
