Ladies Down Under is the sequel to the play Ladies Day. With their winnings the four girls are flying out on a trip of a life time to Australia.
For this play the Director had used an open set and moving flat for the different locations it worked very well.
The script contains plenty of laughs but also moments of sadness, it was originally written for four actresses and two actors with actors 10 roles between them but for this production the director used the same actresses who had played their roles in Ladies Day and four actors playing all the male roles.
The quartet of very talented ladies , Esthop as Pearl gave convincing performance, Jo Foley gave a competent performance as Jan who finds that she is not restricted by her 'mumsy' image any longer and discovers passion in the middle of the bush. Brassy Shelley (Sandra Harrold) who has fritted away her winnings on designer clothes and clubbing was well cast. Gaynor Whitehouse as good hearted and gullible Linda had good timing and some good facial expressions.
They were well suported by the four male actors playing various parts including camp airstewards, a religious surfer dude, a crocodile Dundee character, Joe, Jan's boyfriend and two Sydney drag queens, congratulations to Simon Cooper, Lee Morgan-Salcombe, David Lavender and Jez Luckins who all played their parts well and kept the action moving.
Thank you for your hospitality in your 70th Anniversary Season.
