A nice set with the orchestra just off to stage left, with great props and gorgeous costumes helped get this show off to a cracking start. The sound was good especially as the cast weren’t miked. The lighting set the scenes up nicely too.
The Orchestra under the baton of Jon Gibson sounded great and the direction by Freda Farnworth allowed the comedy in the piece to come out to great extent
On the night I was in Amanda Feasey playing Metella had lost her voice so the director sang her part from offstage. Well done Freda and Amanda for lip synching and acting so well.
Bobinet was well played and beautifully sung by Malcolm Gate and William Hobhouse put in a good performance as Raoul although his voice is clearly not classically trained.
Baron & Baroness Gondremark were both brilliantly played by Tim Keiley and Anne Butterworth respectively. Their parts were comical and well delivered both in dialogue and singing.
Peter Shellard was hysterical as Brazil and delivered lines and sang with great diction and comic timing. Jane Hyde has a stunning voice and beautiful delivery and filled the part of Gabrielle perfectly.
Supporting roles were well played and sung by Charlotte Exley. Pat Anderson. Amber Shellard-Teece, Brian Milligan, Frank Hindle and Dave Edwards. The chorus numbers sounded wonderful and clearly many hours had been spent on the harmonies.
I had a thoroughly enjoyable evening watching a show I’d not seen before which had been well directed both creatively and musically and well executed by the cast.
