Thank you for inviting me to attend this recently updated revised productionwhich I thoroughly enjoyed from ‘Another Op’nin, another show’ to the finale.
Rhian Clements was outstanding, playing the delightful yet feisty Lilly/Bianca. Having had the pleasure of seeing Rhian as Charity a few years ago, I recall commenting at the time that she was destined for more challenging lead roles in the future.
John Morrison was, as always, very confident and entertaining as Fred/Petruchio, and [;layed the role with such charm and outstanding comedic timing (including an ad-lib regarding his age on the evening I came to see the show when many in the audience laughed out loud, he still just about held his composure.) We were also kept up to speed with what can sometimes be a somewhat confusing story of a show within a musical.
Lucy Evans was a delightful Lois/Bianca and Dan Jones played the jealous Bill/ Lucentio; I really enjoyed “Always true to you in my fashion” and “Bianca “
Other very talented individuals, far too many to mention by name, played the supporting roles, but I feel I must mention the Gangsters played with humour, verve and gusto by Kris Evans and Jonathan Eastwood whose facial expressions and demeanour were hilarious throughout.
The most memorable number for me was ”Too Darn Hot” in which choreographer, Chloe Turner pulled out all the stops to make the most of the cast members’ individual abilities. I have seen ‘Kiss me Kate’ many times and this was undoubtedly the best setting of that number I have seen to date. Special mention must be given to the amazing dancing of Jordan McKenzie (Paul) which was truly mesmerising.
With Anne-Louise and Chis at the helm, the production team fully utilised the large well-rehearsed ensemble which was supported by a strong but not overpowering orchestra and back stage team. The colourful costumes, effective choreography and many slick scenery changes all added the finishing touches to this fabulous show. Congratulations to all concerned with this excellent quality production of Kiss me Kate resulting in what I hope will be another award to add to BMTC’s well deserved and growing collection.
