During the overture, we were introduced to all the main characters. Leading lady Kate Cox gave a good account of Lilli Vanessi /Kate, with great vocals and delivery of dialogue. She was perfectly partner by Daniel Cox (her husband in real life), who had good stage presence and sang with feeling.
Rebecca Bate played Lois Lane/Bianca confidently commanding the stage in all her numbers. Richard Cooper as Bill Calhoun/Locentio gave a relaxed performance and entertained us in the dance numbers. Comedic content was capably provided by Stephen Homer and Andy Parker as the gangsters and their rendition of ' Brush up Your Shakespeare ' was one of the high lights of the show.
Simon Wilkinson as Hortensio and Edie Atkins as Gremio made the most of their roles both in character and as part of the ensemble.
There were cameo performances from Daniel Rowsell as Ralph and Bethan Siviter-Coupland as Hattie. who in a break from tradition featured in musical numbers including “Too Darn Hot”
John Nicholas stole the scene in the dressing room as General Harrison Howell and his duet with Lilli added to the entertainment.
The Choreography by Emma and Val Hartley was simple but effective.
The production was well received by the audience. Well done everyone.
