`Another opening, another show' ... by this talented group. Cole Porter`s classic is beginning to show its age, but there were many good performances in this musical of Shakespeare`s “Taming of the Shrew”. David Partridge, as Fred Graham/Petruchio, certainly pulled out all the stops. A dominant characterisation, with a big voice and powerful presence, handling the Bard`s lines with impressive ease. I loved his “Where is the Life that Late I Led”. Superb. He was partnered by Rachel Wyatt, who delivered a most competent performance as Kate. She was vocally excellent and a good foil to David. Julie Beresford played the kittenish man- trap Bianca with relish, and her “Tom Dick or Harry” was well received. Chris Grantham was in fine voice as Lucentio. There was a nice portrayal from Adrian Redfern as General Howell, and other good roles were played by Tom Banks, Greg Tabberer, Gary Heap and Colin Tarrant. The Gangsters, John Wedgwood and Chris Banks were on top form and the audience loved their “Brush up Your Shakespeare”. Lorna made good use of the limited stage in the busy crowd scenes with a most commendable chorus. Their musical numbers, particularly “Too Darn Hot” came over well. An excellent orchestra and good choreography, along with a good set and costumes made this a most enjoyable production .
