After a slow start this show soon moved up a notch to become a quick moving enjoyable experience. Kiss Me Kate is not an easy show to perform as it is a story within a story and then has a further plot within that, meaning that unless it is done slickly the audience can soon get lost.
This was not the case however as the two leading characters were in the more than capable hands of Karl Brennan as Fred Graham and Kerry Masson as Lily Vanessi. This was a perfect match both being able to hold their own in the singing and acting departments although I did think Fred could have had a stronger American accent which at times did get a little lost, nevertheless he played his part very well and convincingly.
Kerry Masson was a delight to behold, she has a pure voice which fitted perfectly in the songs and she was able to act both her characters well, one of my favourite numbers in this show is “I Hate Men” which she put over very well although she could have been a little more aggressive but this is a minor and personal point.
Other supporting roles were very well cast and it was a good pairing of Richard Wilshaw as Bill Calhoun and Claire Rooney as Lois Lane who performed very well together to give very convincing performances.
I particularly enjoyed watching the Two Gangsters played by Sean Walker and Kevin Jackson, they were another perfect match, Kevin acting as the perfect foil to Sean, they only had to walk on stage and the audience was in stitches.
A good supporting chorus and dancing troop completed the line up on stage and I have to give credit to the stage crew for the way they very quickly and quietly changed the big sets needed for this production.
Many congratulations to all involved.
