This was a vibrant, full-on production of Joseph with all the ingredients to bring this fascinating Old Testament Bible story to life. The music and lyrics do this anyway but the HATS talented cast of youngsters added all their obvious enjoyment and energy into the mix.

Oliver Albertella gave a very professional performance as Joseph and he looked wonderful in his coat of many colours, other members of the cast having the opportunity to really show off its beauty on two occasions. The two narrators, Abigail Cox and Hattie Pemberton were so important to the piece, telling the story in word and song as it went along and also looking great in their businesslike costumes.

Henry Stevens gave the character of Pharaoh all it needed to be seen as “the King!” and Edward Stevens portrayed Jacob in ideal fashion – what a wonderful beard!  He also played Potiphar – another great character and Mrs Potiphar was played by Lizzie Pemberton in suitably voluptuous style and very unfairly got Joseph into prison. This was where he met the Butler and the Baker who told him their dreams -  Lizzie Pemberton and Kate Mantello both played these characters very well.

All the Brothers and their wives played their parts to the full with Ruby Thomas as Reuben giving a good rendition of Those Canaan Days. The rest of the cast, which included a dancer, some Ishmaelites, Weeping Maidens, Adoring Girls and Egyptians together with the chorus and choir added very much indeed to all the goings on.

Congratulations to Sue Stewart and her wardrobe team for the amazing costumes and to those responsible for the set design and construction.  It looked great and gave plenty of room for movement.  The lively choreography was looked after by Joanna Stevens, Rachel Coleman and Charlotte Coleman – well done.

It was obvious that everyone had worked very hard on this show and thanks must go to Director Joanna Stevens, Musical Director Linda Thompson and Producer Chris Thompson for giving Young HATS the opportunity to show what they can do.
