Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat(Youth Production)

54 children, in the P2-S1 age group, took to the stage to bring a colourful and enthusiastic production of this perennial favourite to the full-house audience. On a sand coloured , multi-level set, covered with Egyptian motifs and designed by Susan Begg the children sang and danced their hearts out. Callum MacLeod was superb as Joseph with an excellent strong singing voice and acting confidence which belied his years. His renditions of “Close Every Door” and “Any Dream Will Do“ were show stoppers. Ellie Mackenzie and Yasmin Wiseman were excellent as the Narrators with strong singing voices and good stage presence throughout as they guided us through the story. The Brothers – Daniel Falconer, Sophie Paoli, Harris Barber, Abbie Mecklenburgh, Hollie Breen, Rj Cimen, Cali Chalmers, Eva Smith, Emily Elder, Luca Wishart and Jay Kumar – all sang and danced very well and I particularly liked their renditions of the country-style “One More Angel in Heaven”, French ballad style “Those Canaan Days” and the “Benjamin Calypso”. Caleb Bremner as Pharaoh had the audience in stitches with his Elvis-style pelvic movements in his rendition of “Song of the King”. Strong support was given by Aiden Smith (Joseph), Campbell Mackintosh (Potiphar), Emma Millar (Mrs Potiphar), Emma Milne (Butler) and Kyla Falconer (Baker). The ensemble singing was very strong in all the chorus numbers but particularly in the Act 1 closing “Go, Go. Go Joseph” and the finale “Megamix”. The choreography, complete with with some awesome acrobatics, was faultlessly carried out. Costuming was bright and colourful and appropriate to each of the characters. Well done to everyone at Ragamuffins for another enjoyable, fun-filled evening.
