35 members of clubs from across NODA District 10 took to the stage to deliver a delightful concert version of this Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice classic accompanied by a wonderful sounding 17 piece orchestra. Lynne McIntosh was excellent as the Narrator, leading us through the well known story with her strong voice being shown to it’s best in the opening “Prologue” and “Poor, Poor Joseph” numbers. Ross McKenzie was outstanding in the lead role of Joseph capturing both the joy and the pathos in the character with equal ease. His joy in “Any Dream Will Do” and “Give Me My Coloured Coat” contrasting beautifully with the quiet, more reflective “Close Every Door”. Ryan Milne made an impressive Pharaoh with his hip swivelling, Elvis-like delivery of “Song of the Kings” almost bringing the show to a standstill and causing more than a few of the hearts in the audience to flutter! Rodger Brunton and Violet Thomson as Potiphar and his wife made a great comic pairing and had the audience laughing out loud at their exploits. Strong support was given by Alison Marshall (Butler), Iain Kennedy (Baker) and David Marshall (Jacob) in their cameo roles. The chorus of brothers were all excellent and portrayed their individual characters well and their renditions of “One More Angel in Heaven”, “Hoedown” and “Benjamin Calypso” were among the highlights of the show for me. The ensemble singing in the chorus numbers was exemplary with the harmonies coming across loud and clear. The whole performance was drawn to a close with a “Joseph Megamix” performed by the whole company with great enthusiasm which had the audience swaying and clapping along. Well done for putting on such an enjoyable show with only a 7 week rehearsal period!
