Few musicals capture an infectious energy quite like Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Whitehaven ADAOS brought this iconic Andrew Lloyd Webber classic to life with vibrancy and dedication, creating a production full of memorable moments.

Keri Farish led the company as Narrator with a touch of class and grace. Her vocals soared with clarity and control, effortlessly guiding the audience through the ups and downs of Joseph’s story. Keri’s stage presence set a high standard for the rest of the company to follow.

Jack Riley portrayed Joseph with a natural charm, delivering a performance that was both grounded and heartfelt.

Among the ensemble, Tim Pons and Isaac Walkingshaw truly shone. Their stage presence was captivating, and they had the choreography down to a tee, delivering every move with precision and flair.

Special mention must also go to Jason Fleming for his scene-stealing portrayal of Pharaoh. Channelling his inner Elvis, Jason brought humour and energy to the role, drawing laughs and applause with every hip swivel and lip curl.

The ensemble of brothers played their parts with great enthusiasm and cohesion, ensuring that their group numbers were engaging and entertaining.

The costumes, a key component of any Joseph, were absolutely stunning—vivid, detailed, and perfectly suited to the show’s colourful aesthetic. CrewRocks' set design was equally impressive, offering a visually striking backdrop that complemented the production beautifully.

However, one area that fell short was the sound balance. The show really needed amplification. I felt the vocals struggled to compete with the band. It’s a real shame, as the potential for those beautiful harmonies coming across was clear – Musical Director Mike Ames had obviously spent a lot of time on these with the company.

The choreography, under Tracy McOuat’s lead was another highlight of the evening. It was clear that the cast loved performing the steps as much as the audience enjoyed watching them.

Congratulations to Director James Last for pulling together a fabulous production. Having sat through Joseph countless times, I’ll admit to approaching "Those Canaan Days" with trepidation, but I was pleasantly surprised. The scene was engaging, well-paced, and dare I say, even enjoyable!

Thank you for the invitation to another wonderful night of theatre. I wish you all the best for future productions and look forward to seeing what you have in store next.
