Put 29 enthusiastic young people on the stage having learnt Joseph and you know you are in for a very pleasant evening. This is exactly what happened at the Central Hall in Wymondham. This show opens with not one but three narrators ( Vicky Ellis, Imogen Addison, Sacha Hales) all singing well and telling us what is about to unfold. As the characters are introduced you soon realise why this show remains so popular, every other song you have either heard or know. As the title implies the story does rely on a strong central character, Joseph (Harry Smith). This young man is obviously at home on the stage. He sang and acted his way through this part in a relaxed but very capable manner. His brothers (Louis Miller, Isabella Prendi, Alice O’Hara, Frankie Lorimer, Thomas Smith, Molly Pilsbury-Gaunt, Sophie Lorimer, Kirsty Emerson, Hannah Birtwell, George Cooke, Rebekah Knights) all giving us something a little different, characterwise, and ably supported Joseph. In their group and solo parts they proved to us that they could sing and act individually when needed.
The backing chorus resplendent in their very smart waistcoats, and with smiling faces added those extra voices so essential to many of the songs.
The other characters including the Pottifers, a very seductive Mrs Pottifer (Izzy Watts) pinning poor Joseph to the stage whilst her husband (Max Whear) unwittingly sat and counted his money. The Baker and the Butler (Hettie Hales, Olivia Rigney) both these young ladies sang well . Leaving only Pharoah. This is a dream of a part and was given plenty of oomph by (Josh Talbot) who strutted his stuff all over the stage.
It was also nice to see that the society had doubled in size since its last production showing the need for a good youth theatre in that area of Norfolk.
