This delightful play by Alan Meadows about Joseph Banks was performed by kind permission of The Joseph Banks Society as part of East Lindsey Live. An overfull diary meant I saw the Dress Rehearsal, and it just happened to be on Lincolnshire Day! Frankly, all these youngsters, (aged between 7 and 12) needed was an audience. The story was simply told with songs and musical interludes to join the various historical aspects together. There was clever use of symbolism and imagery throughout and all the youngsters played their parts really well. In total three boys played the role of Joseph to denote the passage of time; two girls acted as narrators and we also met various notable characters with whom Joseph came into contact throughout his interesting life. This was a very pleasing performance. I am confident the audiences would enjoy the play immensely.
