This was my first visit to Kirkham Grammar Junior School and I certainly hope it will not be my last. The audience was treated to a wonderful evening’s entertainment. I have seen “Joseph” many times and never tire of this popular show. Kirkham Juniors, however, have brought a new, fresh, dimension to this piece. Everyone involved exuded enthusiasm and confidence. Four young girls shared the very demanding role of the Narrator and their talent was obvious from the very beginning, never once out of character. All principals were outstanding throughout and it would be very difficult to find a weak link. Diction was excellent, something I feel very strongly about. “Those Canaan Days”, one of my favourites, was beautifully performed, one of the highlights for me. The “Choir”, so important in this show, was well drilled and concentration never lapsed. Having the whole school involved needed an army of backstage helpers to ensure all performers were at their appointed places at the right time and this was done, seemingly without any effort. Andrew Lloyd Webber would have been very impressed with the way all the cast performed his music. Producer/Director Helen Shuttleworth must be delighted with the result of all her obvious hard work and must be congratulated on an outstanding performance. Costumes, scenery, sound and lighting all helped to make this an evening to remember. Kirkham Grammar has produced some very fine performers in the past and this certainly looks set to continue after seeing the talent on show this evening. Thank you for your very kind welcome to my wife and myself.
