It’s been 10 years since Bridie launched her own Theatre School, The CTC.  In that time it has gone from strength to strength, picking up many awards along the way.  So what better than to celebrate with this iconic production.

Written originally in 1970 as a rock opera, with Lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber  this musical really ‘rocked’ in the true sense of the word.  Bridie’s vision  has brought this right up to date and to make it stand out from the rest. Unbelievably this is a youth group!  The talent,  dedication and maturity of the cast  would make you  think you were watching a professional  production. No higher praise can be given.

It tells of the story of the last days of Jesus with his apostles, his betrayal by Judas and his crucifixion.  Cameron Collins as Jesus shows  incredible emotion in his role especially in the very difficult final scenes.  Beth Shave as Mary  brings a lovely contrast in the quieter tender moments and is superb in her portrayal.  Josh Gibbons as Judas,  battling with his conscience, but singing like a true rock star is outstanding. I must also give a mention to Ben Kearney as Caiaphas, with his incredible voice and a vocal range to die for, and the dramatic talents of Matt Gilchrist as Pilate.

Having said that, all the cast absolutely sang and acted their hearts out to such a high standard; with so much talent under the musical direction of JJ  and his 10 piece orchestra.  The choreography also was modern and complimented the whole feel of the show.  The minimalistic set worked well in this powerful, well lit production.

Finally, one must compliment Bridie for the  vision, inspiration  and passion that she gives to all her cast,  giving them the opportunity to  love and  work together to bring off an incredible production that they will all never forget.

Thank you for inviting us all and for your hospitality, from Jacquie Stedman( NODA National President), Tessa Davies  (East Councillor) and  myself.    It was a pleasure to meet you all afterwards to congratulate you, and with  the heartfelt  words from Jacquie, to give you all the  encouragement  and support available from NODA  for your undoubtedly  very bright and ambitious  futures.
