Jesus Christ Super Star

This rock opera is based on a biblical story that has its origins some 2,000 years ago and is an account of the last week of Jesus’ life; it has become one of the most popular collaborations of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, with many who have not seen the show being familiar with the title song.  Modern technology and a cast that displayed an extensive range of great stage skills were used to present this extremely powerful and emotional experience of live theatre. The very talented competent principal players were actively supported by a much involved chorus. One of the conditions imposed on this production was that it was to be performed in biblical costume resulting in the entire cast being appropriately and impressively clothed. The superb accompanying musicians were not visible to the audience but located in a different part of the building with a two-way visual link between the conductor and the cast on stage; the first experience for the company with this type of arrangement. The clever lighting plan produced a fantastic range of wonderful effects. There were some highly entertaining moments in this show, including the imaginatively choreographed and well-executed dance routines. In contrast there were parts which also required extremely difficult and detailed direction - the awesome hanging and crucifixion scenes –though being technically difficult, were handled with great sensitivity. This brilliant offering from BOS Musical Theatre Group was masterly and moving, prompting an abundance of accolades from a very appreciative audience; those with only scant previous knowledge of the events played out on stage will now have a greater understanding of the relevance of happenings still celebrated annually across much of the globe.
