This dark tale is a complete departure from the normal type of show performed by Inverness Opera Company and so presented many challenges but they rose and conquered them all. Not the least of these falls to the actor playing the part of Henry Jekyll/Edward Hyde. James Twigg in these title roles gave a tour-de-force performance. His transformations between his good and evil selves were extremely convincing and the ease with which he carried them out made them even more so. His rendition of “This is the Moment” was spine-tingling. Sasha Devine (Emma Carew) and Lesley MacLean (Lucy Harris) as his love interests gave excellent strong performances – I particularly liked their duet “In His Eyes”. Martin Anderson (Gabriel John Utterson) gave a strong portrayal of Jekyll’s sympathetic and faithful friend. Strong support, on the aristocratic side, was given by Stephen Vincent (Sir Danvers Carew), Garry Black (Simon Stride), Maureen Pringle (Lady Beaconsfield), Gerry Sutton (Bishop of Basingstoke), Eddie Doherty (Lord Savage), Alan Hollings (General Lord Glossop) and Steven Kelly (Sir Archibald Proops). On the seadier side strong support was given by Johnathan Stuart (Spider the brothel keeper) and Fiona McDonald (Nellie, Lucy’s kind hearted prostitute friend). The chorus singing was excellent as was their movement.  Congratulations to all at Inverness Opera Company for being brave enough to tackle this difficult show and for delivering such an outstanding production - well deserving of the standing ovation received at the end of the performance I attended.
