Jekyll & Hyde started life as a novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. The story is about love, redemption and the seductive power of evil. It later became a musical; after a revamp and appeared on Broadway in 2013.
Keith Thomas directed the musical with a minimalist set that fitted well into the production. A large cast Dr Henry/Edward Hyde (Jason McCann) was superb as the dual character his talents interacting with good and evil were outstanding, handling the complicated songs very well . Lucy Harris (Abbey Addams) played the show girl and Hyde’s love interest displaying her excellent talents in dancing and singing. Emma Carew (Polly King) engaged to Jekyll was a delight and handled her role with distinction and grace. John Utterson (Dave Sillett) long time friend and adviser of Jekyll tried to keep a steady hand on the mercurial moods of his friend. Sir Danvers Carew(David Dray) gave a very polished performance as father of Emma and will soon become father in law to Jekyll. The ensemble gave excellent but support to the main characters along with a very energetic chorus line. Well done Godalming Theatre Group..
Steven Bean conducted this very complicated music and assisted the singing in a very polished manner.
Allison Chapman well drilled the Red Rat Girls and marshalled the large chorus very well
Stage manager Chris Morley handled the set along with his back stage crew. Designed by Keith Thomas, Eddie King handled the well operated lighting design Sound design and operation by Mike Wheeler A well organised back stage staff worked very well together enhancing the performance.
