Director Heather Legat rose to the challenge of managing this musical play helped by a very experienced cast. A good all round performance by Jane Eyre (Alexandra Yates), who narrated the life of young Jane as an orphan living with her cruel aunt Mrs Reed, ably played by Tamasin Ellis, and her tormenting cousin John (Charlie Murray). Jane retreated to her books and daydreams where she was able to escape the hardship. She is sent to a boarding school and a few years later becomes a teacher, she then gets a post as a governess to Adele (Millie Blake) beautifully played by this young actress, Adele is the ward of Edward Rochester (Myles Harfield) whose superb acting and singing delighted the audience. Rochester’s housekeeper Mrs Fairfax (Elizabeth Chester) whose acting and singing were first class The long list of principals brought a wealth of experience adding to the success of the show.
The Orchestra conducted by Steven Bean complemented the principals
The lighting would have benefited from a follow spot. Stage Managed by Tony Legat and back stage crew. Designed by Stephen Penny. The ensemble including a vibrant junior section embellishing the production.
Very well done and a credit to all concerned.
