It was with great pleasure that Moira and I made our first visit to see Right Angled Theatre in Galashiels.  One goes sometimes with predetermined conceptions of a pantomime but on this occasion I was proved wrong.  With the basic story of Jack & The Beanstalk still intact the production team had added their own twists and turns to the story. With characters like the evil Rancid, Val Smillie, encouraging the rats and putting lots of evil into the story competing against the magic generated by the Fairy of the Field, Katie Chambers, we were on a winner of a panto from the start. Jack, Hilary Thomson, was our hero from the very start and with his Princess Rose, Amy Osmond, gave us just about enough of the love appeal that all pantos’s must have. The antics of Skedaddle, Gordon Keddie, & Skarper, David Williams brought many a hearty laugh throughout the evening. Derek Calder as, Dame Dolly Dimple, gave the audience some guffaw time at his antics also mention must be made of his multiple costume changes that he made throughout the evening.  The company performed well with some superb singing and solo songs interpolated. The children in the cast as either villagers or rats performed superbly.  The dancing throughout the show was of a very high standard and of a modern style which the audience liked.  Congratulations to one and all especially for the capacity ticket sales that you seemed to have had throughout the week.     Thanks again for your hospitality.
