This production of Jack and the Beanstalk was a colourful and energetic pantomime, filled with music, movement and enthusiastic performances that kept the audience engaged throughout. The company clearly embraced the spirit of panto, delivering a show filled with humour and heartfelt moments.

At the centre of the story was Nicole Lawson as Jack, who gave a confident and committed performance. She carried the role with warmth and sincerity, maintaining strong focus and drive throughout, and ensuring the audience stayed firmly on Jack’s side from beginning to end. As Jill, Carina Millar was bright, likeable and spirited, providing a perfect counterpart to Jack.

Drew Knox commanded the stage as Dame Trott, balancing broad humour with genuine heart. Rebecca Waghorn’s Nimbusina was wicked, relishing a clear sense of menace. Ross Lesslie’s Bawheid Benny was an audience favourite, drawing big laughs through physical comedy and cheeky interactions. Gavin White (Soapy) and Fraser Paterson (Dopy) formed a well-matched comic duo, their timing and commitment elevating every scene they appeared in. Karen Young’s Silly Lily added further comic colour, rounding out a strong group of supporting characters.

Nathan Forsyth and Carol Michalak, as Icarus Marius Arthur and Dottie Pratt, provided fun and the right amount of meanness and meddling in their roles as the greedy Landlords.

Robyn Gaughan as Fairy Twinkletoes proved to be a true highlight of the evening. With sparkle and elegance, clarity and expressive storytelling, the character brought magic and momentum to every scene, capturing the audience’s attention and elevating the narrative whenever she appeared. Her performance added sparkle and a strong sense of purpose to the world of the show.

The ensemble sequences were another major strength, particularly those featuring the younger dancers, whose energy and commitment were infectious. The two young girls who danced their hearts out during the ensemble numbers were especially impressive, performing with confidence, precision and joy. Their enthusiasm lit up the stage and made these moments some of the most memorable of the night.

Across the production, there was a clear sense of enjoyment and effort from the cast, with musical numbers, colourful set and costumes creating a vibrant atmosphere. The performers worked hard to entertain, and the scale of the show reflected the ambition and creativity of the team involved delivering plenty of moments for the audience to enjoy.

Well done to all at DMS.
