I love a traditional Panto and this one had all the elements in place. Jokes, slapstick, audience participation, music and local references all handled by the principal characters with confidence and style. The love interest Jack and Jill played by Khye and Kayla, although younger members of the company, handled the dialogue and characterisation well. The feisty dame coped with numerous costume changes and jokes with ease and her other son Silly Billy kept the audience entertained with his energy and fun. Well done lads! Queen Claire and Fairy Flora were for the goodies while the baddies were represented by Mrs Plunder and her giant husband. Spot on ladies!
The other characters including Daisy the cow, Minions, sprites and villagers were all engaged and focused. I was particularly impressed with the well-co-ordinated and choreographed dancing.
Set, special effects, lighting and sound effects were all in place including a beanstalk which grew as we watched. All of these elements are made, painted and operated by members of the theatre. Excellent work team! This was a well organised and produced performance.
Special mention to the backstage helpers under the management of Brenda and the front of house team and hospitality.
This is Abbey Theatre doing what it does best, providing opportunities for audience and cast to experience live theatre. Enjoy yourselves everyone and have the confidence of doing a job well. Good luck with the rest of your run.
