The opening in Cloudland featured a very able fairy Moonbeams (Paige Sladden) and a trainee comical Addie Nuff (Amanda Caldwell) who told the basis of the story and vowed their help. The baddie came on in a very imaginative costume, Snivelling (Joseph Simpson) who got a very good reaction from the rows of Beavers and Cubs. In fact, the costumes throughout were excellent.
The stage opened to a full stage of children of various ages including the smallest one on the front row who sang lustily which the audience loved.
Jack was to be the saviour of the Village played in a thigh slapping way by Flo Shackleton met a demure Jill (Ellie Smith) and it was of course love at first sight. Both these actors had lovely singing voices and their duets harmonised very well.
Dame Trott (Dan Shawe) entered from the back a larger-than-life character in the most amazing costumes is again one of my favourite dames. He struggled with a cough but carried it through without taking anything away from the show. Well done Dan.
In Pantomime there always has to be a daft one and Silly Billy (Molly Inglesfield) carried it off in a gentle manner which I liked. Ready (Tilly Fitt) and Waiting (Millie Riach) bounced off each other as the Brokers Men also adding comedy to the scene. Other cast members included Squire (Howard Wolfenden) who also was Director of the production., Sally (Amy Midgley) Allie (Lucy Balming), Giant Blunder bore created by the Craft and Art from The Space@Field Lane Community Hub (voiced by John Nelson and staged by Daniel Wilson).
The animals added an extra joy to the Production Daisy the Cow (Erica and Sophia Farrow) who managed to produce milk already bottled, and my favourite the Singing Hens (Nethaniel, Beth & Rachel).
Musical Director Phil Turner, Choreographer Bethany Ellis assisted by Rachel Watson, the Costume Department headed up by Christine & Teresa, Backstage Manager/Props Tim & Nicolas, Lighting & Sound Liam King. All contributed to what was an enjoyable evening.
Congratulations to Producer Nathaniel Hyde and Director Howard Wolfenden for a very enjoyable show.
Well done to all concerned in this production of Jack and the Beanstalk.
