The pantomime by Roy McGregor provided the story of Jack, a poor country boy, who traded the family cow for a handful of magic beans which grew into an enormous beanstalk which Jack climbed, encountering an unfriendly giant.  This provided the backdrop for what was a wonderful family pantomime.  Craig Inglis-McDonald’s characterisation as Dame Dotty Trott hit the mark perfectly. Both Wynter Elliott and Murray Keir made great side-kicks with Iain Usher upholding Kingly expectations and Clare Walsh as the innocent Princess Jill.  Plenty fairy dust was sprinkled by Jennifer Scott as the Fairy Rainbow who maintained a watchful eye on the goings-on throughout, always nearby to ensure good overcomes evil.  Daniel Inglis-McDonald provided a convincing baddy as the sinister ‘Fleshcreep’ aided by duo Maria Antelmi and Jen Healy as his side kicks ‘Skincrawl’ and ‘Spot’. Leyanne Orr gave a sharp and quirky performance with perfect comedy timing as Maureen (the hen). Also great seeing Barbara Churcher as Lofty which was quite a different part for her and Ross White was well cast a ‘Blunderbore (the giant). And let’s not forget Kathryn Johnstone and Mari Brien as ‘Daisy Trott (the Coo). The overall comedic drama, choreography, choreographed stage sword fight, comedy, solos and company singing provided the perfect ingredients in presenting a fantastic family pantomime.
