This well written pantomime, written, directed and choreographed by Joe Logan, heralded a return to panto after two years by Birmingham Youth Theatre. With a good looking set, great costumes and a superb lighting, this production was a sure fire hit.
Right from the start of the performance we were treated to some great acting and singing from the principals and chorus alike. Maddison Clarke as Fairy Hiccup opened the show, a well seasoned performer with a great voice. Joining her on stage was Charlie Bland as Jack Trott, great voice, and Ruby Blount as Alexa. I loved her running gag (Well done Joe). Harrison Doherty played a well dressed Dame Dolly Trott who had some great scenes with Dylan O’Connor as King Snoozy, the audience particularly enjoyed their ABBA song together which had the audience clapping along. Rhys Bishop as Baron Stuck up Johnson also came across well and how the audience booed him.
Good support came from Lily-Mae Nicholls as Princess Jill, the goodie turned bad. Comedy came from Medan Allsop as Silly Billy Trot, Jacks brother plus tik and tok played well by Josh Mills and Lola Harper. Both the audience and I enjoyed Marni Carroll as Goldie Harper, the out of tune harp. Well done. It was also good to hear BYT’s patron, Matt Slack, as the voice of the giant.
Some interesting songs in this production which the chorus put across well. There were no stars in this panto as the group worked so well together everyone shone
For an opening night everything thing went well. My only one criticism is that the opening number was too loud but as soon as the sound balanced everything was fine
Well done to everyone involved. A great night’s entertainment.
