Rugby Theatre performed a long-standing classic Pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk with a not-so-traditional storyline which certainly kept you wondering what was going to happen next!

The principle cast consisted of Danielle Stephenson as Jack, a large principle art and Danielle looked as though she was having fun and had excellent comedy timing and characterisation.

Anna Pickering as Jill, more commonly played as the girl Jack wants, but in this version, it was Jill as the not-so-bright character who was trying to attract Jack’s attention.  The part was played perfectly and was fun to watch.

Deita Hubbard played Ringmaster Flash and appeared through the performance and was another excellently played role and a pleasure to watch and Deita knew how to hold an audience’s attention.

Peter Privett performed as Betty Fallsdown the Dame.  Peter played Betty as any traditional dame should be and was a strong performance.

Senga Veasey as Nora Legoff, Debbie Higham as Guru Tootall, Pam Sampson as Sage Nunion and Aaron Evans and Teresa Manning as Servants/Trippers were all smaller roles but the actors had brilliant comedy timing in their roles and kept the audience laughing.

Robbie Bladon as The Great Gritting, our Panto Baddie, who searches for interesting and exceptional animals to perform in his circus. It was a powerful performance and he was perfectly ruthless.

Dean Mills as Rob Swindle and Laura Hopwood as Nick Run were a very amusing comedy due and very well played.

Kirsty Bright performed as Christine the Butterfly and our narrator in parts.  Kirsty delivered her lines with lovely diction and had a beautiful singing voice.

Keira St John as Minnie Biggun the “Giant” who turns out to be not that scary.  A smaller well played role.

Finishing off the principle cast is of course Daisy the Cow played by Natalie Gibson and Rosie Fuller who synchronised well with each other.

The remaining chorus/dancers were well played with some excellent song and dance routines throughout.

A small stage for a Pantomime but that did not stop a fantastic set with costumes and lighting all adding to the pantomime feel.

Overall a traditional title with a non-traditional script which had the audience laughing.
