What a show! The Society is brimming with talent and much of it so young. The future is in safe hands with a young director, young musical director and young leads.
The energy levels throughout the show were terrific.
Jack, a part traditionally played by a female was ably filled by fifteen year old Dawid Szwaj. He carried the swashbuckling look well. His younger brother Simon, played by another teenager, Reece Yarnold was a bundle of energy who worked the audience really well. Whether the audience responded at the right time or not, he was more than capable of keeping everything on track.
Another great performance came from Jon Litchfield, playing his first ever Pantomime Dame. Like Simon, Jon worked the audience well with his superb comic timing.
The dastardly and aptly named Slime, was a first-class villain. Think of an evil Al Murray, the Pub Landlord.
The dancing and music were of a very high standard. Not many Societies have so many, if any, dancers that can dance on point.
The sets and costumes were bright and colourful. In particular, the opening scene of act two was a beautiful, ethereal setting. Breath-taking!
The strong cast worked the carefully selected musical numbers with skill and enthusiasm, proving yet again their strength in depth but my two favourite songs were the duet “Something Stupid” performed by Dawid Szwaj and Clare Fowler and the moving solo number from Be Stainer.
Overall the show was an outstanding success.
