JACK AND THE BEANSTALK
Thank you for inviting Phyllis and I to your Pantomime Production of Jack and the Beanstalk and your very hospitable welcome. It was lovely to see a near full house at the Palladium.
The simplicity of the set enabled the production to move at a good pace throughout even the crew managed to get an on stage role - complete with fairy tutu. The way the beanstalk grew looked effective and overall the lighting was good. The choice of music and the backing tracks were generally good, but they would have been improved if the intros to some of the numbers had been shortened to reduce the delay before the songs started and sometimes the pickup before the track started could have been quicker.
Costumes were very good and in keeping with the plot. Well done to the wardrobe team.
Director Trevor Mossop, also playing Dame Durden, was very good and got the audience involved easily. I know how hard he must have worked. David Powell playing his first leading role with the company as Squire Goodnight acted and sang the part well. All the young people playing main characters played their parts well, but the star of the show was undoubtedly Aidan Wright, as Simon. His comic timing and the way he involved the audience along with his acting and singing was incredible for such a young man, WELL DONE AIDAN. The chorus routines were well performed by a very young and enthusiastic chorus.
All in all, Jack was a really feel good pantomime to set everyone up very nicely for the festive season.
